Does Affiliate Marketing Still Work in 2014?
There is certainly no shortage of Affiliate Marketers pitching their offers to their website visitors, in social media and to their email lists. But does affiliate marketing still work for affiliates in 2014? If it does, why does it. And if it doesn’t, what does?
If you are to believe what you read on most super-affiliate’s pages, it would certainly seem that affiliate marketing really does work.
But take a deep-dive into the murky waters of internet marketing and you may find that those who you believe to be super-affiliates are actually product owners who also happen to promote other products as affiliates. You see, having your own product to give away or to sell, is the way you create an email list.
A visitor to your site, clicks on the download or buy button, and in return for plugging in their email address, your product is theirs. Now you have the visitor’s email address, and you can start sending your new customer information and offers for other products.
As they say, the money is in the list.
Now I’m assuming you know what Affiliate Marketing is. If you’re unsure, check out my earlier post about Affiliate Marketing for Beginners.
There’s no “trick” to affiliate marketing. There’s simply a process that you need to go through. There’s no magic push-button software that will make you an overnight successful affiliate marketer. If anyone tells you otherwise, be very skeptical…
The important thing you need to be doing to make it as an affiliate marketer is to have an email signup page (customers you can send stuff to) and great quality content on your website (content that Google loves and will send you visitors).
Now, it’s all well and good to have an email sign up page, but you need to follow up every person who signs up. This is where your autoresponder comes in. Get onto MailChimp or AWeber or GetResponse and investigate for yourself which auto-responder has the best package for you – yes, you’re going to have to pay some money for this step. The auto-responder will post an email sequence to your signups. YOU need to create the email sequence. This is a sequence of emails that gives your readers valuable information. You want your readers to trust you and form a relationship with you through this series of emails.
Create great informative emails for your readers. Engage with them, give them a reason to want to keep opening your emails. These emails can lead to posts on your webpage, and you should always conclude the email (and the post on your website) with a “Call To Action”, whether it be to “share my site on Facebook” or “drop a comment below”, “take our survey” or “download your free bonus”.
